As the Christmas holiday arrives, it’s very important to think of your smile and do everything you can to care for your teeth and gums. Whether you believe this or not, many of the Christmas foods and treats can be extremely harmful for your smile. However, there are ways you can care for your pearly whites all while enjoying the holiday season, and those ways are to:

No. 1: Eat balanced foods
As you eat your favorite sugary treats this Christmas, do your best to also eat traditional, healthy foods to help your smile cancel the harmful acids sugar leaves in your teeth. Some good foods to eat include veggies, delicious dip, and meats.

No. 2: Set a time limit
If you are one who tends to snack all day during the holidays, we encourage you not to. Snacking all day can harm your smile because it doesn’t give your chompers the time they need to build up a defense against tooth decay and plaque. So, to help you stop this habit, we encourage you to dedicate a specific time of the day to food and snacking. Once that time is up, do your best to move on and do something different.

No. 3: Drink a lot of water
Drinking water on Christmas is a great way to wash your smile every chance you get. As you drink, the food particles and bacteria will be washed away. So, do your best to drink as much water as possible.

No. 4: Stay busy
To help you refrain from eating all day, try staying busy. Visit with family members, play games with friends, and do a puzzle. Christmas is a great time to make wonderful memories with the people you love!

No. 5: Clean your smile
To completely care for your smile, you need to brush and floss your teeth 30 minutes after you eat. This will free the food particles, plaque, and bacteria from the crevices of your smile. So, remember to pack a travel-sized toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss to your party destination.
